Great Southwest Golf Club

The golf : Ralph Plummer designed this course in 1965, incorporating three connected lakes into the layout. Dick Nugent came along in 1983 to lead a renovation effort that helped the course survive. The course has been known in recent years for its outstanding greens.

The best hole is the 223-yard No. 3, which plays downwind over water and is extremely difficult to stop on the small green. Interestingly, both nines end with very similar par 5s. Both are over 500 yards–No. 9 has water on the left side and in front of the green, while No. 18 features water on the right and in front of the green.

The details : 972-647-0116. 612 E. Avenue J, Grand Prairie, TX 75050

Getting there : From Hwy. 360 south, take the Avenue J/Brown exit and turn left onto Ave J. Go over the bridge and the clubhouse is .5 mile on the left.
